Spoonflower

I have drooled over spoonflower for some time now.
The opportunity to design your own fabric....almost as exciting as Fashion Plates, I tell you!

Well, a few weeks back I took the plunge and uploaded one of my designs.
And my little sample swatch came in the mail yesterday.

And it is every bit as fantastic as I'd hoped it would be.  Can't wait to make Stelly Jane a pair of ruffle pants in this print :)
I'm planning to modify and upload the rest of my little "Groovy" line soon... but for now this print holds down the fort, and can be purchased here!

A little Christmas sewing.

My niece loves elephants.
And being the only sister in the family, she also loves anything that twirls.

Naturally I promised her I would make her an elephant dress.
Pink and purple elephants, per her request...the girl knows what she likes, and I like that.
And since I had a hard time finding a nice "pink and purple" elephant fabric...I thought I'd make her one of each :)  After all, you can never have enough fancy.

And on a different note...
I'm seeking advice.
Thank you for all the kind words concerning my "Blessed" hoop.
After the New Year I am hoping to be snowed in and sit and craft while I sip my coffee.  (But not too snowed in that there is no school :)

And I'm wondering...
What other words do you think would go well in a hoop?
Talk amongst yourselves, and have a very Merry Christmas!

1 year and a give-away!

I sold my first set of rainbow pom poms just before Christmas last year...my only item available for sale :)

As I shipped out that very first little order, I was pretty excited, and  made it my goal to reach 100 online sales by this time the following year.
A simple and meager....yet attainable, goal.
One I'm happy to say I've achieved!

And in honor of that, I thought I'd have a happy little pre-Christmas give-away:)

I have learned a lot about myself this past year.
That I love playing with my fabric way more than the actual task of sewing the pieces together.
And I love the creative process...putting different colors, patterns, and textures together until they are just right. I think that's why I enjoy making my little felt flowers so much. No directions, or surged edges on those puppies...just scrappy little originals.
That being said, I've started making some new little creations for my shop...

Scrappy and colorful little embroidery hoop wall hangings.
I absolutely adore making them, and they are easily customizable. I made a giant one for Stella's room with her name on it.

So onto the give-away...

I have this one up for grabs....

Each piece lovingly sewn onto white fabric and placed in a 12 in. hoop.
Not your colors?  That's ok....a  doodle original makes a great gift too :)

To enter, leave a comment telling me one thing you're really hoping to receive for Christmas this year....or somthing your really excited about giving if there's nothing on your list :)

And if you wouldn't mind adding this blog to your google reader or blog roll or letting your facebook friends know about this.... that would be great too! (but not necessary :)  You may leave an extra comment telling me you did so :)

Winner will be announced Tuesday nite, just in time to ship out before Christmas!

Page 74.

Over the summer I was contacted by Simply Handmade Magazine, and asked if I would be interested in writing  a little tutorial for their fall special sewing addition.

A tutorial  for one of my flower cards.

My copy finally came in the mail today!

For the love of flannel

We are cozy creatures over here.
Nice jeans are considered church pants, and worn very begrudgingly by my boys. They spend their days running around in athletic or sweat pants.

My gals enjoy their cozy tights, leggings, and comfy pants.  At the age of 8.5, I can count on one hand how many times Sydney has worn jeans in her life.  I buy her a pair every so often, but she just doesn't like them.

They do come by it naturally, tho.
I'll wear leggings any day.
Cozy I tell you.

Now that the seasons are changing, my eyes have been drawn to more cozy fabrics at the store.

And while perusing the aisles, I realized that flannel isn't just for large, oversize, button down shirts circa 1992 anymore.

They make some really cute prints.

So I bought a few yards, and made Stella a pair of flannel ruffle pants, and Ellery a flannel dress...

And now we wear our comfy clothes in style :)

Another shirt re-fashion

I love a good bargain.
I just can't seem to pass by a good deal when I stumble upon one.
It's in my blood.

So consiquently, Sydney has a ridiculous amount of shirts.
And the girl won't wear jeans.

For fun, we decided to spruce this one up a bit with fabric and trimmings from my stash.

And wa-lah!  A new dress for Sydney!

And I'm pretty sure we'll get more use out of it in it's new form.

Vintage Fat Quarters.

My stash of vintage sheets is starting to get a little out of control.

And If I'm honest, I really don't need all of that fabric.

So I've decided to start selling them off in my shop....now available one fat quarter at a time!

I was delighted to ship my first fabric package off to the UK earlier this week.
And even more delighted to discover that I rock at guessing shipping.

Ruffle Shirt Re-Fashion

I  have been drooling over the ruffle fabric in this shop for some time now.
Suck my tongue back in, wipe off my chin, drooling I tell you.

So, when I stumbled upon this delightful yellow ruffle shirt at a garage sale for a frugal $1.50, I snagged her right up.

I had a lovely size 4t onsie laying around.  One of those stock up because it's cheap at the outlet mall purchases when Stella was a baby....not really processing that she would be potty trained before it actually fit.
So, I cut up the onsie, cut up the shirt, cut up one of Tim's old gray t-shirts to make a flower... and wa-lah!

And while yellow isn't my first color choice, I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out.  I honestly thought I'd screw it up, because the fabric is stretchy, and lining it up just right was a pretty important factor.

Sweater Re-Fashion -Part 3

Because I have been thoroughly enjoying cutting up my old sweaters, I thought I'd try out another sweater upcycling project with yet another trusty old gap multi-stripe goody.

I've glanced at quite a few tutorials that transform an adult size sweater, into a sweater dress for a little gal.

And I've been wanting to give it a whirl.
So, I chose a pretty easy sweater to work with....small neckline, tight yarn weave, not super long....
and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out!

It went surprisingly smooth!  ie.no swear words involved

I first cut the seams up the sides of the sweater....cut off some material in an A-line shape on each side, and then sewed them back up.
.
Next,  I cut off both sleeves and chopped them down shorter, and also cut up the inside seam and cut some extra material off to tighten them up a bit.

I sewed them back onto the original armhole.
And that's it! Wa-Lah!

Happy Thursday all~

Sweater Re-Fashion -Part 2

Ok, remember my last sweater re-fashion post?
pretty fancy photoshop skilz, huh :)

Well, I know you've been waiting around on pins and needles... pining away...wondering what on earth we did with those left over sleeves.

It was pretty simple, actually.
Trim a little off, fold a little under, add a little elastic... and wa-lah!

New legwarmers for Stelly Jane.

Perfect for trampoline jumping, on a crisp autumn day :)

...and they don't look half bad on me either :)

Stay tuned...I have another sweater re-fashion up my sleeve!
Happy Tuesday all~
